NAIROBI, Kenya, December 4 – The two Eritrean national team players that went missing from camp in the ongoing GOtv Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup, have not yet been found and no one seems to know their whereabouts including tournament organisers.
The duo who are yet to be identified, escaped when the team members went to watch Saturday’s matches at Nyayo National Stadium.
Nairobi County Police boss Benson Kibui, confirmed to Capital Sport on Wednesday that he has not received the case.
“Nobody has reported the matter to us (Police) but I will follow it up from the tournament organisers,” the Police boss told.
This comes after Eritrea head coach Omar Ahmed, said he is not concerned with the players who sneaked since he has the best in camp.
“I am not a politician, so I don’t care about the players who vanished, I have the best that will represent the nation in the remaining matches,” the coach said after losing their match 3-0 to defending champions Uganda Cranes on Monday.
Secretary General Nicholas Musonye refused to comment on the matter.
This is not the first time the players disappear when on international duty, last year a number of them vanished in Kampala, Uganda during the tournament with almost the entire team disappearing in 2009 when the regional showpiece was hosted in Kenya.
