NAIROBI, Kenya, October 10 -The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will work with Kenya in the fight against doping that has threatened to undermine the country’s sports especially athletics.

Deputy president William Ruto says UNESCO will train Kenyan trainers who will help in eradicating doping activities in order to protect the interests of young people involved in sports.

“Doping jeopardizes moral and ethical basis of sport and the health of those involved and should be discouraged at all costs,” Ruto said.

Speaking during the official opening of the Kenya week in UNESCO held in Paris, France on Monday, the Deputy President said the move by the organization to train trainers on anti-doping was commendable.

“The partnership between Kenya and UNESCO on training of trainers on anti-doping is commendable. This is sincerely welcome development,” Ruto added.

He said Kenya attaches great importance to sporting activities disclosing that it will not allow the use of performance enhancing substance to ruin the career of many young athletes.

“We are doing everything possible to ensure that Kenya’s sporting prowess is not undermined by doping.”

The week-long event will present diverse facets of Kenya through different activities to be held within and outside UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.

Present were UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova, Kenya’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to UNESCO Prof George Godia, Higher Education Principal Secretary Colleta Suda, MP Bernard Shinali and Governors Salim Mvurya (Kwale) and Moses Akaranga among others.
